Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. It is distinguished from other ways of addressing such problems by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on rational argument. The word "philosophy" comes from the Greek philosophia, which literally means "love of wisdom", and was originally a word referring to the special way of life of early Greek philosophers.
Subject categorization within philosophy is:
Epistemology ~ Questions about knowledge
Metaphysics ~ Time, space, God, causes, reality
Ethics ~ Good and evil
Esthetics ~ Art and beauty
Politics ~ Organization of the state
My favorite philosophers are Lao Tzu (Taoism) andAristotle from the ancient Greek world.
Lao Tzu wrote the Tao The Ching, a beautiful set of 81 concise sections, offering guidance on how to live a good life.
Aristotle was a pupil of Plato and Plato was a pupil of Socrates. Especially, I like his definition of happiness as follows : Happiness is achieved by acting or producing things (from his Nicomachean Ethics).
My philosophy as it relates to simplicity. I wander about and observe things as a child, as if everything is new to me. This helps me to distinguish between standards and exceptions, and this leads to inspirational thoughts. Learning by endless repetition. Not making assumptions and living in the present.
